Whistle Post Tavern Lets You Feel at Home For the Big Game

By Courtney Clark

On Railroad Street in Conyers, Georgia is the Whistle Post Tavern, a fun and friendly restaurant that serves breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Guests can enjoy live entertainment most days of the week and drink and meal specials.

The Tavern greets guests with its wooden storefront, string of lights, and bright sign announcing the restaurant name. The entrance is decorated with pink flowers growing beside lantern-style streetlights, and diners are welcomed by the warmly-lit double doors. Once inside, the warm light continues, illuminating the truly tavern-style décor. Wood paneling lines the walls and wooden rafters hang over the tables and benches.

It's more than just the décor that gives the Tavern a friendly atmosphere. Almost each night of the week there's live entertainment such as a variety of live music and DJs. There are also activities on some nights; in the past, these have included karaoke, Texas Hold 'Em, and Trivia Night. Happy Hour is Monday through Friday, and some days there are food specials, too: All-You-Can-Eat Snow Crab Legs, $8 Famous Big Fish Sandwiches, and $8 burgers are just a few examples.

The Tavern is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day and brunch on Sundays. Owner Linda Moulton promises that the restaurant is famous for delicious food. "All meals are prepared fresh to order," she says of their delicious menu. The breakfast menu has favorites such as the homemade buttermilk pancakes, which come in short and tall stacks, and guests can add blueberries or chocolate chips; a Cinnabun "with 5 yummy centers instead of just one;" and biscuits and gravy. Lunch and dinner offer sandwiches (try the Black Bean Burger or Chicken Club), hearty salads and appetizers, and entrees like Grilled Salmon, Chicken Parmesan, and Chop Steak. Sunday brunch is popular for its $5 Mimosa Bar and Bloody Mary Bar to pair with local favorites Shrimp n' Grits and Eggs Benedict.

Of course, a Tavern isn't a true tavern without a full bar and drink specials. Moulton explains, "We have the largest spirits selection east of Atlanta and a visit to our famous Scotch (and more) Cabinet is a definite must-do." Several specialty cocktails are available, such as the Orange Dreamsicle Tini (vodka, orange juice, whipped cream), the Green Tear (absinthe, cranberry juice, tonic water), or the Georgie Peach (Sweet Peach Tea vodka, lemonade, peach schnapps).

The Whistle Post Tavern has a variety of food and beverage options to choose from so that even the most discerning guests will find something to suit their tastes. As Moulton says, "Come on over!"
