Voice Today Inc. Helps to Break the Silence on Child Abuse

By Elisha Neubauer

Child abuse is a horrible, cruel, but very real issue facing today's society. Many cases of child abuse go unnoticed, ignored, as children, and parents, remain silent. But there is an organization in Marietta, Georgia that is looking to change that, striving to break the silence: Voice Today.

"Voice Today is a non-profit organization breaking the silence & cycle of child sexual abuse and exploitation through advocacy, prevention and healing programs and resources," says Angela Williams, MFP, founder of Voice Today. "We are facing a pandemic. In the USA, 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused by age 18. Only 1 in 10 will ever tell and 93% of the abuse is by someone the child knows, loves and trusts."

Voice Today aims to break that cycle through utilizing awareness education in order to bring about action. They help victims to heal in a healthy way, allowing them to break the cycle in order to prevent it happening again. "We are battling the perversion in our society," she states. "We are holding bystanders accountable who look the other way by legislative reform to extend/eliminate the civil and criminal statute of limitations."

Founded in 2008, the nonprofit organization was established solely to respond to the desperate need to protect our children from child sexual abuse and exploitation and provide healing aftercare to survivors.

"Voice Today is responding to the desperate need to provide aftercare healing resources and programs for survivors of child sexual abuse and exploitation, which in turn will create a healthier society protecting the next generation of children," explains Williams. "The mission of Voice Today is to break the silence and the cycle of child sexual abuse and exploitation through Advocacy, Awareness, Prevention & Healing Programs and Resources."

Over its seven years of operation, the organization has impacted thousands of lives and continues to expand, from originally offering three programs to extensive Awareness Campaigns & Events and a menu of over 20 Prevention & Healing programs.

"Voice Today is becoming the leading victims advocate in the country," Williams details. "The Voice Today team speaks frequently in the media and in live appearances on the silent epidemic of child sexual abuse."

Despite its courageous goals, it hasn't been an easy road for Voice Today. "Child sexual abuse is not an easy subject to address, therefore funding initiatives have been challenging," Williams tells us. "Voice Today is dedicated with great resolve, passion and determination to making this vision a reality." She adds, "With education and courage, our society can protect the next generation of children."
