By Ed Emery

Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

Dove Remodeling is a full service residential and light commercial construction company that is family owned and operated. We are licensed by the state of Georgia and we carry the appropriate insurance as mandated by the state of Georgia. Over the life of the business, we have built custom homes, a retirement community, commercial storefronts, commercial buildings, custom kitchens, custom bathrooms, master suite additions, decks and we also do honey do lists and much more. We also offer job supervision on a percentage of the job.

Is there something that people can do before their remodel starts to help make the process go smoothly and make sure they end up with a kitchen they'll love?

Making sure you hire the right contractor. The right contractor many times is not the cheapest. You get what you pay for especially in the construction world. The right contractor will provide one bid to which the final invoice should match. Often times the cheaper contractors go above their small budgets which puts unneeded stress on the homeowner.

What are some of the main choices that a homeowner will need to make when they're remodeling their kitchen?

Cabinets are the centerpiece of the kitchen. Choosing the right finish is essential to your kitchen remodel. Many choices include laminate, stained, painted or faux finished cabinets. Other details include soft touch drawer slides, soft closing doors; pull out shelving, and the color of the hardware. As well as many countertop choices: granite, marble, quartz or maybe concrete.

What are the most popular countertop materials for people in your area?

In our service areas, we mostly install granite and marble. You can install both granite and marble on a budget, and it still looks and feels high end, and will last for years to come.

How should people decide on the type of new flooring to have installed?

Kitchen floors encounter water and other liquid spills and exposures. Selecting an engineered wood floor or tile floor will help maintain the life of the floor. Also, darker floors show scratches more so than lighter floors.

Do you have any advice for how to make a kitchen stand out while maintaining your remodeling budget?

Modern backsplash with a mosaic tile design behind the stove, lit by under cabinet lighting is both budget friendly and really makes the kitchen pop.
