Squash Blossom Kitchens Offers Mediterranean Flavors With A Southern Touch

Christine Roberts and Katy Watson have been friends since childhood and share a passion for food and cooking which is why it made sense for them to open a boutique catering business together, operating out of Decatur GA.

"Of course, working with a best friend can be a lot of fun; we always try to turn our time in the kitchen into an opportunity to catch up, listen to great music, and just generally have a great time," they said. "But we also make a good team because we each bring unique skills sets and respective interests to the table that complement each other well. We enjoy and take point on different aspects of the business which helps keep our operations effective, efficient, and engaging."

Roberts is a classically trained chef who graduated from the Italian Culinary Academy and apprenticed at the Cibus restaurant in Apulia, Italy. She specializes in Italian and Southern cuisines. Watson has been cooking most of her life and loves baking. Prior to founding Squash Blossom Kitchens with Roberts, she worked in brand and customer marketing.

"From a culinary standpoint, we blend Mediterranean flavors with a touch of Southern influence which we think is a unique, delicious pairing," they said. "Our menus are very produce-driven and we are constantly changing them to incorporate new concepts and seasonal flavors."

One of Roberts' favorite menu items is the fregola salad which is a Sardinian pasta resembling couscous that is delicious served with pesto or summer vegetables and a light vinaigrette. She also looks forward to Watson's Christmas specialty, gingerbread blondes

Watson loves the company's dessert offerings as well as their housemade ricotta. Their ice cream creations are winners in local contests, and many of their recipes are generously shared on their website and on YouTube. So if you're trying to make Bittersweet Chocolate Ice Cream Sundaes with Candied Pecans and Fudge Sauce or an Easter Milk Chocolate Toffee Pound Cake Nest with Chocolate Icing and Pecans, you know where to look.

Squash Blossom Kitchens specializes in mid-sized private parties, corporate events and rustic cuisine. They also offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-friendly options.

"From a business standpoint, we take pride in offering a boutique, seamless experience for our clients which means that we are responsive, attentive to our clients' needs, and always happy to provide custom offerings," they said. "We have been fortunate enough to have worked with many of our clients for years and truly enjoy being a part of their special events."
