Richardson Media House Captures Moments in Time

By Pamela Sosnowski

Richardson Media House of Atlanta stands out from other photography studios in that it not only offers photography services, but web design and development as well. Owned by a husband and wife team, Chelsea and Nate Richardson, the company is able to provide newly married couples with a comprehensive portfolio of their special day.

"I specialize in documentary photography," says Chelsea Richardson. "I love to capture moments when the couple I am working with isn't thinking about being in front of my camera, but are totally wrapped up the moment. To me, these are the most precious images."

Richardson says she picked up her first camera at age 16, and has never put it down. After graduating from the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 2008, she was also running a freelance photography business and then managed a boutique photography studio in central Pennsylvania. It was there that she developed her business acumen while continuing to build her freelance business.

At Richardson Media House, she specializes in wedding, family, and professional portrait photography and knows how to make any kind of lighting work for the subject, whether she's shooting in dim indoor light or in a natural outdoor setting. Working closely with her clients to learn their likes, dislikes, and expectations is key to her success as well.

"I take the time to get to know the couples I work with and it helps me to know how to best capture their wedding day," she explains. "When I meet with a couple, I explain when I will speak up and when I will just be a fly on the wall. I ask exactly what it is they are looking for and how I can best accommodate them. I explain that all final images are comprehensively retouched, meaning that you will never be charged extra for things like blemishes, stray hairs or artistic final touches."

Richardson also captures the special moments in families of all sizes and ages, whether it's capturing a little boy kissing his baby sister or chronicling a family reunion. No matter what the subject, Richardson enjoys the spontaneity of candid photos. "I am a very sentimental person and have always loved photography's ability to capture moments in time," she explains. "Of course there is always a need for some posed images, but my favorites are always the candids."

Richardson's husband Nate also has a background in photography, and serves as the studio's front-end web developer, specializing in small business IT consulting and minimalist, responsive web design. In addition to providing photography services, Chelsea's work of landscape scenes are also for sale on the website, with various size prints available that are mounted on matboard.

Richardson's advice for anyone seeking a photographer to chronicle their special event is to do your research and find a photographer that you know you can work well with. "You want to find a photographer that you get along with on a personal level as they will be intimately involved with your wedding day," she advises. "Some couples like more interaction than others. Some are more camera-shy and some have trouble not acting silly every time they see the camera. Every couple is different and it's important that your photographer takes the time to figure you out."
