Southern Hospitality with an Island Feel: The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort

By Elisha Neubauer

Located on the coast of Georgia, St. Simons Island has been named one of the Ten Best Islands in America by AOL travel. Nestled quaintly on the beach of the Island is the The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort. The Resort itself has earned many awards for its southern hospitality, stunning views, and outstanding staff- making it a coveted vacation spot for tourists across the globe.

Originally opened as a dance club in 1935, the hotel portion of the building was added in 1941. The King and Prince has always been highly esteemed for its spectacular seaside views and modern amenities, and it was this clear, ocean view that led to it being converted into a naval coast-watching and training facility during World War II. Reopening to the public in 1947, the hotel immediately resumed its popularity with tourists due to its impeccable Mediterranean architecture and superior service.

To keep the hotel at its peak, renovations were made in 1972, 1983, and 2010-2014, which also included several expansions due to growing recognition. In 1996, the resort became a member of the prestigious Historic Hotels of America foundation, and in 2005, was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Being the only oceanfront resort on St. Simons Island already sets The King and Prince apart from its fellow island hotels, but there is much more to the resort than just its breathtaking views. The resort owns and operates an award-winning golf course, which includes a challenging layout in a setting amid immense salt marshes, vivid island holes, lake characteristics, and ancient forests.

Other sought-after amenities include tennis courts, exercise facilities, several oceanfront swimming pools and hot tubs, massage therapies, and award-winning dining on-site. "ECHO, our indoor-outdoor restaurant and bar, has become a destination in and of itself, because of its sheer beauty, as well as the relaxing atmosphere and the views of the ocean and resort pools," describes Bud St. Pierre, Director of Sales and Marketing of The King and Prince.

If the views and benefits were not enough to draw you to The King and Prince, the hospitality should be. In 2015, the resort joined the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame for earning the Certificate of Excellence five years running. Based off consistent reviews and ratings from former patrons, the Certificate of Excellence is a customer-choice award. "I think what defines and separates 'southern hospitality,' from 'great service' is that the person providing the service genuinely treats you as if you are their friend or a guest in their own home, and truly cares that you have the best possible experience," explains St. Pierre.

This impeccable service also shines through in the catering and conference service team. The resort is a seven-time winner of the Meetings Focus South's Best of the South Award, a six-time winner of Convention South's Reader's Choice Award, and six-time winner of the Successful Meetings Pinnacle Award. Thanks to the resort's excellent wedding catering team, The Knot and Wedding Wire have also honored the King and Prince. "Our employees have always, and still do, exude true southern hospitality," says St. Pierre. "That long-standing correlation helped lead to our "gleaming reputation" that carries through to this day."

A cherished and historical landmark, The King and Prince has been offering up true southern hospitality on the Georgia shores for 80 years. Once called a hidden gem, the renowned venue is an island retreat, southern vacation, and golf excursion all in one convenient, easy to reach location. Get your island fix and southern experience, along with spectacular views and exceptional service, at The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort.
