Say "Hola" to Authentic Mexican Cuisine

By Courtney Clark

Often, chain restaurants are not known for serving authentic cultural cuisine. However, Frontera Mex-Mex Grill in Conyers, Georgia is different from the rest. With Mexican roots, fresh ingredients, and community involvement, Frontera brings quality meals and service to Conyers.

Frontera's history dates back to 1987, when Norberto Sanchez opened the first restaurant. According to the website, he wanted to "share the true food of his native Mexico" and provide "a unique and satisfying experience for everyone." He was successful- so successful, in fact, that 27 years later there are thirteen locations. For thirteen years in a row the restaurant has won Atlanta's Consumers' Choice Award, in addition to several other awards at various locations. Frontera also aims to keep Mexican culture and tradition within the company by employing a Mexican CEO and other staff members.

Frontera is proud to serve fresh ingredients, which can be difficult as a chain. When asked how, Marketing Manager Adriana Quintanilla reveals Norsan Foods: the commissary used by the restaurant. According to Norsan's website, it was also founded in 1987 and began its business with Frontera by venturing into "the process meat industry and wholesale imports." The quality of Norsan's food comes from the "in-house USDA-licensed meat packaging and distribution at Prime Meats." The company's focus includes the Hispanic market, making it the perfect choice for Frontera.

The fresh ingredients from Norsan are used to create authentic, quality Mexican cuisine. Quintanilla lists the Frontera Cheese Dip as a favorite appetizer among customers. Guests can enjoy the mild dip or have it spiced with jalapenos. A popular entrée is the Burrito al Carbon: marinated steak or grilled chicken breast served in a large wrap. Smothered with cheese dip, the dish is paired with rice and refried beans. Frontera has a flexible menu for guests, as well. The gluten-free menu includes seafood options such as the Tropical Ceviche or Light Fish Veracruz as well as steak and chicken dishes.

Regardless of which entrée a guest chooses, there is a perfect drink to match. The Kiwi Margarita is a new favorite, but visitors can also opt for the traditional Coronarita- a margarita and a Corona. Watching your weight? Opt for the Skinny Margarita, a delicious combination of lime juice, Agave Nectar, and Patron Silver at only has 96 calories.

Since 1987, Frontera has always had the customer in mind. The restaurant even gives back to the community by hosting fundraisers for schools and associations. Quintanilla explains that the restaurant also participates in other events such as Tastes and festivals that are hosted by the community. She says, "We are also one of the favorite sponsors of local school teams and organizations."

Conyers is lucky to have Frontera. From delicious meals made with fresh ingredients to customer care, the restaurant is dedicated to quality. As Quintanilla says, "We want to show [our patrons] the real Mexican way of service and that of regional Mexican cuisine."
