Laura Watson Photography Specializes In Heirloom Wedding Photographs

By S. Mathur

Photographer Laura Watson, based in Griffin, GA, has heard all about her parents' wedding in a small chapel with just two friends present. But she's never seen the photographs, because there weren't any. Perhaps that's the reason why her passion is wedding photography, and why she wants her clients, whom she thinks of as her couples, to have visual memories that can be handed down the generations.

Watson began dabbling in photography in her senior year of high school, but it wasn't until she began photographing friends' weddings that she discovered where her talents lay.

"I learned from some amazing professors, and discovered that the world of portraiture fit me best, but until I photographed my first wedding in July 2012, I hadn't found my purpose," she said. "After that July wedding, a hot, long, and exhilarating experience, I knew that weddings were my passion, but more importantly, couples! I've since photographed over 50 weddings, and I'm looking forward to the next 50!"

Watson's photography combines the emotional and technical demands of wedding photography seamlessly.

"I believe my emotional style is joyful, romantic and genuine while my technical style is bright, crisp and colorful," she said. "I specialize in elopements and destination ceremonies, and my favorite couples believe that at the heart of their wedding is their relationship. Details are beautiful, but I believe in focusing in on the relationship and moments that make up their wedding day."

Watson gets rave reviews from clients, because she lives up to her promise to see their wedding through their eyes. She values their opinions and friendship, and that may be what sets her work apart. The trust she works so hard to build also produces intimate and authentic pictures of her subjects being their true selves.

Watson finds it difficult to pick her favorite part of any wedding.

"Aside from the top moments of anyone's day, the first time they see each other, their first kiss, the father-daughter dance, my favorite moment comes after when they get their photos back," she said. "Don't get me wrong, I adore the wedding day! But as the photographer, my purpose is to capture those memories so they can relive them for the rest of their lives."

Watson's friendliness is backed by her professionalism and focus. These qualities allows her to navigate a full day's festivities and at the end to produce a portfolio of heirloom photographs.
