Just Like Home: Mother's Finest Catering Makes Comfort Food For the Masses

If you're seeking a catering company that makes food like mom used to make, look no further than Mother's Finest Catering. For over 30 years the Mableton based catering company has been serving southern comfort food to the Atlanta-Metro area and has no plans to slow down. While most catering companies like to experiment with food trends and new recipes, Mother's Finest Catering sticks with what it does best: tried and true favorites that clients love.

"We like to keep things simple so our customers know what they are getting," James Ashcraft, the general manager and owner, said. "We are known for southern favorites like fried chicken, turkey and dressing, pot roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, and creamed corn."

The mother in the company's name was Wilma Ashcraft, who started the company out of her own kitchen before officially launching the business in 1985. She and her small staff catered local weddings and church dinners and decorated cakes. In 2006, the company had grown so much it moved into its current 7,200-square-foot headquarters in Mableton. The facility features a state-of-the-art 2,800-square-foot kitchen and can accommodate any size function with a variety of menus from breakfast to cocktail parties.

The Corporate Lunch, a popular option with many local businesses, includes an assortment of freshly prepared sandwiches, side salads, and optional hot entrees such as meat loaf, burgers, and chicken parmesan. The company offers several breakfast options from the basic continental (bagels, pastries, fruit juice, and more) to a full hot breakfast featuring scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and southern trimmings of grits and biscuits. Everything, including desserts, is made from scratch.

Specialty items that are perfect for cocktail parties or any type of gathering include fruit, cheese, and veggie trays and appetizers such as stuffed mushrooms, egg rolls, artichoke dip, and other delightful finger food. The staff can work with clients to customize a menu for their and their guests' needs.

The current roster of chefs have over 50 years of culinary experience and have prepared food for all size functions, from birthday parties to fundraisers. Besides catering the local Rotary Club and Lion's Club, Mother's Finest Catering is a favorite of local businesses such as Georgia Power Company and Scottish Rite. According to Ashcraft, keeping prices affordable is just as important as making tasty food.

"Providing quality food and service at a reasonable price has always been our recipe for success," he said. "We specialize in moderately priced caterings for any size. Our best pricing is for groups of 100 or more."

The company has become so popular that it offers a cookbook of its best recipes via its website. The book is a collection of southern favorites handed down through family generations. The website also features a monthly recipe from Mother's Finest Catering's collection of favorite dishes.

Client satisfaction has driven Mother's Finest Catering, even helping to save the company an advertising budget, as Ashcraft attests to.

"Our food speaks for itself," he said. "Over the past 30 years, besides a yellow page listing, all of our advertising has been word-of-mouth."
