Fieldstone Center: Family Owned and Operated Since 1949

By Jessica Metcalf

Stone Sales and Service opened in 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana under the leadership of Paul S. Poynter Sr. In 1971, Poynter and his wife moved to Conyers, Georgia and established Fieldstone Center, Inc., which has been providing custom stone since that day.

"We are a family owned business with 3 generations of stone expertise," says Co-Owner Darlene Poynter. "We quarry stone, fabricate stone, and offer services that no other stone center in the area can provide."

Fieldstone Center has a large selection of stone to choose from so that their customers will have no problem finding the perfect look to suit their home and style. Poynter explains that you can buy stone in full thickness application or as a thin veneer- which requires far less structural support. In addition to natural stone, Fieldstone Center even manufactures a faux stone called Creative Stone. Made with cement, natural iron oxide pigments and lightweight aggregates, Creative Stone looks like stone but is extremely lightweight and cost-effective. It also has the benefit of being easier to install.

"Stone has so many uses," says Fieldstone's Jennifer Dean. She tells us that while builders traditionally use the material for patios, fireplaces, walls, walkways, and fireplaces, a lot of people come looking to use it on bathroom walls, kitchen backsplashes, and even driveways and parking pads. "Stone is timeless," says Dean. "It is durable and will last more than your lifetime- there is such a rich variety and large selection when it comes to choosing stone."

If you are looking add some gorgeous stonework to your home, do your homework first. Dean says the most successful customers prepare by measuring their area, looking online, and figuring out what look they want to achieve. "Ideas are endless," says Dean. "Whatever a customer can imagine, we can help make happen with stone.
