Fallen Arrows Clothing Company: Flexible by Design, Independent by Choice

By S. Mathur

As a declaration of future goals, the Fallen Arrows Vision Statement is not short on ambition: "If you combined a clothing company, a hippie commune, and a revolutionary army it would look a lot like Fallen Arrows. We're flexible by design, independent by choice, and devoted to service." The company started back in 2007, with the idea of using t-shirts to promote the work of new artists, and it just took off from there.

Owner Tito Sands recalls that "We gathered together a band of artist friends and set about putting their art to garments. Over the years, our body of friends and artists grew to the point that we had to consider branching out from an art promotion project to a full on business."

The goal is to serve the needs of everyone connected with the process: the artists who produce the designs that go on the clothing and canvas prints, the customers who want unique and high-quality products, and the employees who can fulfill their own need for artistic expression at work.

Sands sees the two sides of the business as related. There's the production of the artworks, by artists or through collaboration with client ideas; and the other side is the delivery of high quality printed apparel. Fallen Arrows works with a large number of artists, almost too many to name, says Sands, but "some of our regular favorites are, and in no particular order, Kerry Simonds, Catlanta, Tiny doors ATL, DJ Maseo from De La Soul, Tiger Wizard, The Old Try, Mona Collentine, Lucy Ricketts, and Ambrose H. Hoilman just to name drop a few."

Customers can choose from existing artwork, or work with Fallen Arrow staff, who are all artists at heart, to bring their own visions to life. Sands says that for staff, this is practically their favorite part: "We love getting the chance to put our minds and hands directly into the designs of our customers. All of the Fallen Arrows team have backgrounds in the arts. Longtime tee shirt designers, young artists, and seasoned art pros, so wanting to create new shirt design is in our blood."

Fallen Arrows has become a favorite source for direct to garment printing services. Clients can design their own t-shirts, using the online shirt designer software available at the company website. Alternatively, they can ask staff for help in creating designs, or choose from the work of leading artists. They can order just one shirt or enough to supply a merchandise table, and be sure of getting an affordable rate.

The printing equipment can print the selected designs on just about any material. The revolutionary army may be some way in the future, but Fallen Arrows has achieved the independence and flexibility to carve out a unique place for itself.
