Cumming Local Celebrates Life in Forsyth County

By S. Mathur

Writer Rachael Walkup believes that Forsyth County, GA is a great place to live. As the owner of the Cumming Local website, she shares her love of the place with local families, helping them to find out more about Cumming. She explains that "Cumming Local was created in 2010 to provide families with a centralized location to find things to do, place to go, and small businesses to support in Forsyth County. I purchased Cumming Local in the fall of 2015 to continue this same purpose. Currently, I help people to know more about Cumming, GA by sharing blog posts on the website and our social media channels."

Social media is a powerful tool for connecting people and ideas. Walkup says that "For me, it's about connection. I work to connect businesses with people and vice versa. In Cumming we have some great local businesses as well as non-profits. I work hard daily to ensure that I'm helping the residents of Forsyth County to know more."

The website features guides to local activities, museums and discovery centers, cultural activities, restaurants, local businesses and much more. The focus is on families and family-friendly activities, with a special section on deals and kids-eat-free offers. Weekly blog posts offer a list of things to do, places to visit and special deals, all with a kid-friendly focus. Posts on visiting parks and discovery centers come with helpful tips for parents, such as letting the kids tire themselves out before dinnertime: saving the meal for afterwards makes it easier to round them up when leaving.

The business listings section has a unique feature: reader recommendations share opinions and experiences of local businesses, for everything from house cleaning services to yoga to volunteer opportunities. That fact that the reviews and posts are from ordinary people make them both authentic and useful.

What are some of the things about Forsyth County that Walkup wants to share with readers? "What is unique about Forsyth County is how different it can be no matter where you are in the county," she says, "You can drive to the north of Forsyth County and see farm land and cows. And you can drive to south Forsyth and see tons of places to shop or dine like The Collection of Forsyth." She feels that the people of Forsyth County are what make it a wonderful place to live.

Walkup says that if she had to pinpoint two things that are special about Cumming, GA, "You should definitely check out our parks. We have so many great ones!" Cumming also has a lot of delicious places to eat, especially at The Collection of Forsyth, " laces to eat like EarthFare, Mellow Mushroom, Grub Burger Bar and much more." Local businesses such as Ginger Howard Violin and Viola Studio, Vickery Chiropractic, i9 Sports, Southern Way Insurance Agency, and Northside Building Services are among the sponsors of the Cumming Local website.
