Climbing to the Next Level at Stone Summit

By Elisha Neubauer

At Stone Summit Climbing and Fitness, you can embrace your inner Spiderman and scale the colorful walls like a pro.

Climbing is a unique sport that has been growing in popularity in recent years. In addition to being a full-body workout, climbing requires several non-physical skills, such as problem solving, strategy, fear management, and other mental challenges. "Pushing yourself on a difficult climb is incredibly rewarding," says Alastair Steward, Director of Operations at Stone Summit. "It is for this reason that I love being a part of the climbing community and having an excuse to spend time outdoors."

Steward tells us that Atlanta is a great home for Stone Summit. Part of that is the location: "Atlanta is only a few hours' drive from some amazing outdoor climbing, hiking, and camping."

According to Steward, Atlanta's climbing community has really begun to develop since their arrival as well. "Over the last five years, we've really seen the local climbing community grow and flourish," he states. Steward attributes this growth to their state-of-the-art facilities. "The scale and quality of our facilities is less common in this region than elsewhere in the country," he explains.

"The climbing community is cultivated by the climbers themselves," Steward tells us. "However, we do our best to offer a welcoming and engaging atmosphere paired with a top-notch climbing experience so that the climbing community has a place to grow and evolve."

Meanwhile, Stone Summit always looks to participate in community events, creating a unique relationship with those around them. "We are involved in some very cool community events, such as youth climbing national championships and large fundraisers," he says. Another event hosted by the facility is Rock and Rave, a fundraising party in which money is raised for non-profit organizations that aid outdoor climbing area access and maintenance.

Stone Summit is located at 3701 Presidential Parkway in Atlanta and 2801 George Busbee Parkway in Kennesaw.
