Mark Anderson is a different kind of photographer; while others specialize in weddings and family portraits, Anderson's specialty is photographing the beauty of the human body, whether clothed or nude. If the idea of boudoir photography makes you nervous or intimidated, Anderson's clients testify that his sessions are often fun, comfortable, and relaxed -- so much so, that they often rebooking him for other photography jobs.
"I'm passionate about photographing people and showing them that they are beautiful," he explains. "Since I specialize in boudoir and fine art nude photography, it's important that the client relax and become comfortable in order to get the most flattering shots. In my studio I shoot directly to a computer so each image shows up on a monitor as we shoot. I've found that this allows the subject and I to gauge how we are doing and to make the shoot more interactive."
Anderson got his start in his profession as a young boy, when his mother gave him his first camera. As a teenager he experimented with shooting various styles, often practicing on his now-wife of 43 years. He photographed his first wedding in 1972 and won his first national photography contest a year later.
His interest in lighting techniques (colleagues refer to him as "a master of lighting") nurtured his interest in commercial photography and working with models. Anderson has provided many services free-of charge to help models and make-up artists build portfolios, and has also sponsored model training sessions and written articles on how models can stay safe while on the job.
His work has appeared in Vogue, New You, and Model Look magazines among others, as well as numerous books and calendars. Besides boudoir and nude photography, Anderson may also be booked for maternity shots, commercial photography, glamour shots, headshots, real estate, corporate, and miscellaneous subjects for advertising and other industries. He shoots on location or in his Atlanta studio.
"The work that I do shows the real person and not just posed images," he states. "I've worked hard to understand lighting, composition, and camera angles so that I can capture images to tell a story and let you see the beauty of the subject."
Casual Elegance Photography offers a spectrum of packages and services for every client's needs and which can include makeup artist services. Anderson even offers a printed calendar or book of a subject's photography session, which many girlfriends and wives give to the special partner in their life. But what Anderson enjoys most about his work is seeing the self-esteem and confidence that a client gains after a session.
"Most of my clients are doing the shoot as a gift for someone else, but most leave the studio feeling like they are empowered and have done the shoot for themselves," he says. "I love to see them relax, get into the shoot, and then be amazed at their beauty when they see the images."
