Finding the Finishing Touch for a New Home

By S. Mathur

Choosing artwork for your home is a big decision. One major concern is the "livability" factor, since art sets the tone for the house and the lives that will be lived there. Not sure how that still life will work in your living room? Atlanta's Bowman & White Art Gallery and Framing has a unique solution:

"We offer a "Try it before you Buy it" program on all of our in-stock art items," says owner Eric White. "This helps to ease one's apprehension of making a purchase before they see it in their home."

White believes that open-mindedness is the best trait a shopper can possess. "My best advice would be to be open to ideas that you did not first consider when shopping for art or framing, and be willing to try different pieces in your home. Be willing to compromise on the style/colors with your partner because what you will "really love" is how a piece of art can finish your room and give it personality. Many of my customers will come back and tell how much they now love the art they have purchased from us over the years and how their friends and family often comment about their artwork!"

The Gallery opened in 1994 and since that time has been attuned to changing needs and trends. White started the business with his parents Bill and Becky Bowman. "Our focus initially was original European advertising posters dating from the 1880's through modern times. Our timing and sources were excellent. This was a very trendy art form in 1990's and early 2000's," White recalls. He used to travel to Europe to scour antique markets for inventory- which grew to over 5,000 pieces.

"We sold this art at various antique, home, designer, and collector shows across the country for over 10 years, says White. In 1995 we opened our first Gallery in Atlanta. We carried the posters, decorative art, and we offered custom framing."

The Gallery moved to Cumming in 2013. The Metro Atlanta neighborhood was ranked #10 in Money Magazine's 2013 "Best Places to Live: Top 100."

"Cumming is a high growth area and one of the fastest in the state and country," says White. "There is a lot on new development taking place and a lot of affluent people live in this area." And all that growth means that Bowman & White is busy helping Cumming residents- longtime and newly-minted- find the perfect pieces for their walls.
