Award Winning Photographers Team Up in Athens to Form Blume Photography

By S. Mathur

The award-winning husband and wife team behind Blume Photography became professional photographers by "a sort of happy accident," recalls Phillip Blume, Owner.

"Both Eileen and I were photographer hobbyists throughout our lives, but only our friends really took note of our work. Soon after we got married in 2008, another of our friends who became engaged asked to see our portfolio while she was searching for a wedding photographer. Eileen (who is a classic over-achiever), instead of simply emailing sample images, created our first Web site to display our photography."

They began receiving requests for wedding photography from complete strangers and their professional careers quickly took off.

That was just the beginning of their meteoric rise to international fame. Over the next two years they began winning international awards. They were invited to speak at major conferences in the world of portrait photography, such as WPPI in Las Vegas, ShutterFest in St. Louis, and others. Beyond the world of photography, they were invited to speak at the prestigious TEDx series to share their belief that everyone is a potential artist and that creativity can change the world.

While they have a diverse portfolio, wedding photography is their true love. Blume says that "Photographing weddings - locally as well as destination weddings around the world - is still the heart and soul of everything we do. Our favorite part of this dream job is getting to know our couples during such an important time in their lives."

Capturing such varied settings as urban shabby chic and rustic simplicity, their heirloom-quality artwork is often intended as much for the kids and grandkids to come as it is for the couple themselves. One of the couples whose wedding they photographed even asked the Blumes be godparents to their first child.

The Blume experience is about creating a meaningful relationship with their subjects. While they are famous for their wedding photography, they are also known in the photography industry for family portraits and especially Eileen Blume's award-winning portraits of newborn babies. Opening a new professional studio space near Athens, GA allows time to schedule family, senior, kid, baby, and high school senior portraits.

As well as being leading creative artists in their field, the Blumes are also committed to nurturing talent. Their associates include a team of photographers and videographers who have trained with them and share their creative vision. Clients for their part consider Blume Photography to be highly professional and willing to adjust to the small hiccups that reality throws into the best wedding plans. Others simply feel that they are worth their weight in gold.

As creatives with a social conscience, the Blumes are also branching out it into film to tell stories from around the world. The Lost Boys of Paradise documents the experience of fatherless children in war-torn Guatemala. Blume summarizes the studio's philosophy: ""Life is what it's all about - celebrating life and changing lives."
