Alacarte Catering Brings on the Flavor

By Marina I. Jokic

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia and graduating from college in New York, co-owner of Alacarte Catering Irina Clow began her career in catering right out of school. Prior to coming the U.S., Clow also lived in Israel, picking up recipes along the way. Having worked as a catering coordinator and food and beverage director for big clients in Georgia, Clow felt ready to undertake her own business.

Opening Alacarte Catering in Sandy Springs, Georgia with her friend and partner Rhonda Miglioli nearly 20 years ago, Clow has managed to instill their passion for entertaining into every aspect of the company. At Alacarte Catering, a rule of thumb is attention to detail. The owners' love of cooking, rooted in their European heritage, fuels the creativity and enthusiasm for serving people.

"We really don't have a style [per se]," Clow said. "We listen to what our clients want and how they want it, and then provide that; some folks want an elegant reception with all the bells and whistles while others want a simple, hearty Southern meal."

Even before starting her own business, Clow cultivated a loyal client following. With a flair for culinary decorations and a relentless gusto for creating out-of-the-box recipes, she captured the palates of many guests.

The menu at Alacarte Catering is indicative of the international vision and affinity for innovation of its owners. The lineup of dishes is truly impressive and spans the culinary gamut. From classic hors d'oeuvres such as deviled eggs, smoked salmon trout spread canapes, and beef tenderloin and blue cheese crostini to more regionally characteristic options like spanakopita, Cajun baked catfish, and traditional gumbo, Alacarte Catering delivers fresh ingredients and bold flavors.

"Our roasted vegetable platter is visually spectacular and offers nine different veggies," Clow said. "The poached salmon presentation is always a big hit as is the southern chicken platter with peach cognac."

Alacarte Catering has staffed events at popular venues such as the Philips Arena, Chastain Park, and the Atlanta Symphony Hall among dozens of others. Their list of clients includes legal firms, engineering and medical companies, and civic organizations but also individuals. The company is skilled at adapting to small and large events, with a client-oriented mindset.

"Alacarte Catering is different from most conventional caterers because we truly are "a la carte," Clow said. "We let the clients guide us and decide what they want: nothing is etched in stone."
