A&S; Culinary Concepts Is A Kitchen Studio With Classes, Custom Catering And More

By S. Mathur

A&S; Culinary Concepts in Johns Creek, GA is a culinary studio: teaching kitchen, custom catering service and host for private events and team building. For owner Andrew Traub, the best thing about it is that it lets him get back to basics and to the kitchen. He opened the studio in 2015, after a long and distinguished career in the culinary world.

"After being an Executive Chef for Marriott for almost 25 years, I decided to go back to what I really loved, which is cooking," he said. "The position of Executive Chef for a large corporation entails more administration than hands-on cooking and I wanted to get back to the excitement of cooking. I decided to design a kitchen space where we create everything from scratch and where we could be creative with menus and cooking techniques."

Cooking classes and culinary adventures were written into the business model. Team building was inspired by the popularity of TV cooking shows and the Food Network, and has been a big hit with clients.

People can choose what they want to learn, from baking skills to Big Green Egg grilling techniques. They can pick seafood menus, Italian and Mexican themed cuisines, and more. Private classes for groups of 12 for adults and kids can accommodate events like kids' birthday parties, girls' or guys' nights out, cooking classes for teens or couples and neighborhood get togethers. No particular skill or previous knowledge is required to attend classes, and the atmosphere is fun and casual.

"My teaching style and atmosphere in the classes and at our studio is totally relaxed and laid back," Traub said. "We know people come to our culinary studio to learn, but more importantly have fun. We have welcomed a range of guests in our kitchen studio, from novices learning basic knife skills, to weekend warrior grilling champs who are looking to pick up this new skills and cook in a fun atmosphere with others."

For custom catering too, there is no set menu, just guidelines and ideas to inspire clients. Catering services can handle anything from cocktails to a BBQ party. Catering clients include corporate offices, a dance company and an ice hockey team. Corporate catering will deliver sandwiches and salads and even hot meals to your office. Special orders and dietary restrictions can be accommodated. Whatever the menu, the food is beautifully presented and arranged. Private events can be anything from a Big Green Egg class to a craft beer or wine dinner.

With so much to offer, it's not surprising that the culinary studio gets five star reviews on Facebook, Yelp! and Google. Traub is very connected to the culinary and local communities, sharing his time and skills. Among others, he serves on the board of Atlanta's Table, part of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. He works with Prism, the special needs school for adults in Johns Creek and he created the Battle of the Big Green Egg, a cook-off between the Johns Creek Police and Fire departments, with proceeds going to Johns Creek Public Safety Fund.
